Veg Momos Recipe : A Step by Step Guide
Veg momos are a delicious and popular snack originating from Nepal and Tibat, widely loved in India other parts of the world. These steamed dumplings are stuffed with a mix of finely chopped vegetables and flavorful seasonings. Here's a detailed recipe to help you make restaurant style veg momos at home.
Ingredients:
For the dough:
. 2 cups all purpose flour
. 1/4 tbsp salt
. Water, as needed
For the stuffing:
. 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
. 1/2 cup grated carrot
. 1/2 cup finely chopped capsicum
1/4 cup finely chopped spring onion greens
. 1/4 cup finely chopped spring onion whites
. 1 tbsp minced garlic
. 1 tbsp minced ginger
1/2 tbsp soy sauce
. 1/2 tbsp vinegar
. 1/4 tbsp black pepper powder
. Salt, to taste
. 1 tbsp oil
Instructions:
Step 1 : Prepare the dough
1. In a large bowl, mix all purpose flour and salt
2. Gradually add water and knead into a smooth, firm dough
3. Cover with a damp cloth and set aside for 30 minutes
Step 2 : Make the stuffing
1. Heat oil in a pan on medium heat. Add garlic and ginger, saute until fragrant
2. Add the spring onion whites and cook for 1 minutes
3. Add cabbage, carrot and capsicum. Stir fry for 2-3 minutes on high heat
4. Add soy sauce, vinegar, black pepper and salt. Mix well and cook for another 1 minute
5. Turn off the heat and stir in the spring onion greens. Let the stuffing cool
Step 3 : Shape the momes
1. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into a thin circle
2. Place a small amount of stuffing in the center of the circle
3. Pleat the edges and gather them together to seal the momo. Twist the top to secure
Step 4 : Steam the momos
1. Grease a steamer plate or line it with cabbage leaves to prevent sticking
2. Place the momos on the plate, leaving some space between them
3. Steam for 10-12 minutes until the outer dough becoms translucent and cooked
Step 5 : Serve
Serve the momos hot with spicy tomato chutney or schezwan sauce
